Compaction grouting uses polyurethane foam that is injected into the loose soil layers. After injection, the foam expands rapidly and compact the surrounding soils and increases the load bearing capacity. The expansive forces of the foam combined with the injection pressure from the pump compacts the soil and fills the voids in the area immediately adjacent to the foam.
Permeation grouting uses liquid resin that is injected into the ground. This resin permeates the soil before reacting. Once reacted, the soil and resin form a strong, solid impermeable mass which increases the load bearing capacity of the soil. The resin is injected through small diameter pipes driven into the weak, unstable soil to a specific depth. A small electric pump pumps the resin into the pipes. These pipes, or probes, are raised at specific intervals as the resin is injected to form columns of stabilized soil.
When you hear about a sinkhole in the news, it is a large sinkhole. Most sinkholes aren’t as bad as the one on the news. However, even the smaller sinkholes can cause big headaches for homeowners. They show up as cracks in swimming pools, foundation cracks, wall cracks or cracks in your driveway.
