Foundation Repair

Water is the culprit in most foundation problems, either too much or too little of it. If there’s too much water in the soil under your foundation, it could cause either soil erosion or soil expansion. On the other hand, soil that doesn’t have enough water will shrink. Soil erosion, soil expansion, and soil shrinkage all cause movement in the soil and, over time, this can lead to serious structural damage.

Concrete Leveling and Lifting

Sunken concrete slabs such as walkways, pool decks, and driveways are everywhere. They’re not only ugly, they’re also a trip hazard. If someone gets injured because of a sunken slab on your property, you could even find yourself facing a lawsuit. The good news is that sunken concrete slabs are easy to repair via a procedure called polyurethane foam injection.
In the past, there were two main ways of dealing with a sunken concrete slab: dig it up and pour a new slab, or repair it using a technique called ”mudjacking”. Both had their drawbacks though.
Digging up and replacing a sunken concrete slab is a costly, time-consuming solution. Freshly poured concrete needs time to dry and harden before anyone can walk on it. That means there’s always going to be a certain amount of downtime with this solution. Also, if the soil wasn’t able to hold up the old slab, it’s not going to be able to hold up the new slab.
Mudjacking involves pumping a cement slurry underneath the slab in order to raise it back up. The problem with mudjacking is the weight of the slurry. It’s heavy because it includes cement. If the soil already isn’t able to support the slab, piling even more weight onto it in the form of a cement slurry isn’t going to help. In fact, it could cause the slab to sink even more.
The serious drawbacks to mudjacking and replacing the slab are the reason polyurethane foam injection is the solution most commonly used today to lift a sinking concrete slab.
The polyurethane foam injection procedure involves drilling small holes in the concrete into which the polyurethane foam is then injected. Once the foam is pumped under the slab it instantly expands and lifts the slab back up. Since it’s extremely lightweight, it doesn’t add additional weight to the soil. It’s a quick, minimally-invasive repair and as soon as it’s done, you can use the slab again. It’s also an environmentally-friendly solution because the polyurethane foam does not leach into the soil.

Seawall Repair

Seawalls are very common in South Florida. Their purpose is to create a barrier between the land and the water. Unfortunately, they can also erode over time. This is caused by a variety of things including extreme weather like hurricanes and tropical storms, tidal fluctuations, and the sea level slowly rising. If your seawall in Hollywood FL is starting to fail, contact us today and we’ll come out for an inspection and free estimate.
