Do I need a permit to fill a sinkhole?
If you have a sinkhole that is not effecting your home directly, but is on your property, then it is possible to fill on your own. It is important to note, that there is a lot to understand and be aware of when filling a sinkhole. First of all it is always a wise choice to call a professional inspector, by doing this you guarantee that the hole is safe to be around. The last thing you want is to have friends or family get injured. This inspector will also be able to determine if the hole is connected to underground water sources and aquifers. If the sinkhole is in fact a conduit of aquifers, then you’ll need to go about getting a permit from the Local Water Management District or the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Once that is done, you will be free to fill it up with all natural materials. You do not want to use chemical or unnatural materials that might hurt the environment and soil.
Here at Foundation Professionals of Florida we won’t tell you it’s impossible to fill a sinkhole on your own, but it’s definitely not our recommended solution. It is always easier and less stressful to contact a qualified and expert company to eradicate your sinkhole. If you do it on your own, then you’ll have to find an independent contractor, get your own permits, and find your own supplier of natural grout.
If the sinkhole is near or around the base of your home then you DO NOT want to repair it yourself.
